Who are Soroptimists?
Soroptimist International (SI) is the largest classified service organization for women. We are a dynamic organization for today’s professional and business women. We are not a charitable organization. If we raise funds it is for specific project.
Soroptimists work in a variety of occupations, but we use our professional expertise and diverse talents to help others and work for social change. SI is concerned with issues that relate to its objects and programmes. We observe strict neutrality on matters of political controversy between nations and is non-party political and non-sectarian.
SI has about 86,000 members with more than 3000 clubs in 124 countries. The organization structure is comprised of four Federations. Soroptimist International Region Of Malaysia (SIROM) belongs to the Federation of the South West Pacific (SISWP) which has 12 regions, including Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Mongolia, Fiji, Samoa, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, China and Solomon Islands.

This SISWP Educate, Exchange Connection Program 2013 is the initiative of current SISWP President Puan Sri Siew Yong Gnanalingam. I am very privileged to be one of four ambassadors chosen from Malaysia, and representing my club, SI Petaling Jaya and visiting SI Wellington and several clubs in that region. The other 3 are Shamala Ramasamy, SI Bangsar, going to SI Port Moresby, Nicole Tan, Immediate Past President of SI Seremban, who will be going to SI Auckland, and Karen Chan, President of SI Penang, who will be going to SI Melbourne.
The programme begins on 3 October, with a dinner to celebrate Soroptimist Friendship night at Puan Sri Siew Yong's home. All Ambassadors from SISWP countries will converge in Malaysia for a few days before leaving for our respective countries. A HUGE hank you to Puan Sri and Joyce Kee for coordinating and managing this mammoth task!
To kick it off, on 22 September, the four ambassadors gave short presentations to the SIROM council and received plaques of congratulations.
